"These notes reproduce the content of the colloquium talks givenat G"ottingen Univeristy in December, 1999 and at Milan Univeristy in April, 2000. They are devoted essentially to quasi-simplicity and finiteness phenomena in the deformation theory of real algebraic surfaces. An additional result, which was not given in these lectures and was obtained shortly after, is given at the end of the notes. It concerns existance of rigid surfaces without any real structure and thus providing examples of disconnected moduli spaces of complex structures with given underlying smooth structure (and given orientation).
