In the adults of both sexes of Rana esculenta, gonadectomy provokes a reduction in the height of epidermis and the atrophy of mucous glands. Testosterone treatment restores the normal morphological aspect; estradiol-17⁢β is ineffective. These observations along with the presence of only an androgen receptor in the skin of both sexes of Rana esculenta allow us to affirm that this tissue is a secondary sexual character.
