In order to study the possible correlation between malignant neoplasm incidence causated by polluted water and the fall of the immunological barrier, the variations in the haematic, serological and immunological pattern were studied in Trituruscristatus Laur. and Rana esculenta L. sperimentally maintained in water of the TorrenteSeveso at a different rate of pollution. Remarkable variations have been observed both in newt and frog in the number of erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes and, althoughat a lower rate, at the level of serum proteins. Of interest is the fact that in the two species considered the effect of water pollution was often different. In fact, while a increase of the number of red blood cells was observed in the newt, a decrease was observed in the frog. In the mean time the leukocyte size of the frog does not change while that of the newt decreases.
