This is a personal account and reminiscences concerning some of the highlights of the history and important events in the development of survey sampling as perceived by the author. It gives special emphasis to the developments at the Bureau of the Census in the late 1930s through the 1960s, reviews early acquisition of Univac and related equipment at the Bureau of the Census and briefly discusses the more recent issue that has received attention concerning the role of probability sampling versus model-dependent sampling.
